Posted worker (détaché)

Posting means keeping an employee (or a self-employed worker) under the social protection scheme of their usual country of activity while they work temporarily abroad. It is always time-limited — up to 24 months within the European Union, the European Economic Area and Switzerland, subject to extension conditions, or a duration set by a bilateral social security agreement outside that zone. Form A1 (or the equivalent posting certificate) confirms this arrangement to the host country's authorities.

Because a posted employee remains covered by French Social Security, they do not need to join CFE to keep basic cover: French employer and employee contributions continue to be paid as if they were working in France. Supplementary insurance nonetheless remains useful to cover the gap between French reference rates and the actual cost of local care.
