Form A1 (formulaire A1)
A certificate issued by Urssaf that certifies an employee posted abroad remains affiliated to the French social security scheme during their assignment, instead of contributing in the host country.
Form A1 applies to postings within the European Union, the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and countries linked to France by a bilateral social security agreement that provides for this mechanism. It is requested by the employer, via Urssaf's ILASS service, before the employee departs, for a posting duration capped according to the applicable framework.
The document must be available to present to the host country's control authorities if requested. It only covers affiliation to the compulsory social security scheme: it does not remove the need to take out supplementary health cover suited to the assignment, or repatriation assistance.
Example
A company that sends an employee on a twelve-month assignment to a partner country requests a Form A1 before their departure, so that they remain covered by French Social Security rather than contributing locally.
