Informational content — no offer yetEntrepreneurs and Company Directors
Consistency between health, mobility and any protection needs. Protections have limits, which depend on your status and on the product: they are explained here before any step is taken.
Service being launched: an advisor reviews your request and gets back to you to clarify your needs.
Who it’s for
- Entrepreneurs starting or growing a business abroad
- Company directors who are expatriated or internationally mobile
- Self-employed people and freelance professionals based outside France
Why your status matters
Entrepreneur, director or self-employed: your status influences the protections you have access to, in your country of residence as well as in France. That is why the study starts by understanding your status before discussing any solution.
Health: the questions to examine
- Coverage: which care is covered, with which caps and which exclusions.
- Area: the country of residence, but also business travel.
- Assistance: what is organised in an emergency abroad.
- Repatriation: in which cases and under which conditions it is arranged.
- Family: the spouse and any children attached to the contract.
For more detail on these points, see the expat health insurance page.
The discovery interview: what is examined
- Your situation: activity, project, planned length of stay abroad.
- The countries: where you live and where you travel.
- Your status: entrepreneur, director or self-employed, and the social protection you already have.
- Your needs: health, mobility and, where relevant, death and disability cover.
The interview is a conversation to understand your situation. It is neither an offer nor a promise of cover, and no medical data is requested at this stage.
Income protection: the questions to ask yourself
- Work stoppage: is there any compensation if you are temporarily unable to work, and under what conditions?
- Disability: what happens if the incapacity becomes long-term, and how is it assessed?
- Death: who needs to be protected, and in what form?
- Waiting periods: how long must you wait, after taking out the contract or after a stoppage begins, before any payment?
- Exclusions: which situations, activities or countries are not covered?
- Director’s status: does your status give entitlement to any protection, and which?
The limits to know about: these protections vary depending on your status and on the product. Health insurance does not replace death-and-disability cover, protection you have in France does not always follow you abroad, and every contract has its own conditions, waiting periods and exclusions. This page promises neither cover nor any product: the study is there to see what may be possible for your situation. To understand the principle, see the expat death and disability insurance page.
Frequently asked questions
Does health insurance cover loss of income during a work stoppage?
In principle no: health insurance reimburses the cost of care. Loss of income falls under death-and-disability cover, whose conditions, waiting periods and exclusions vary from one contract to another.
Does being a company director change my protection?
It can: the social security scheme that applies and the benefits you are entitled to depend on your status (employee, corporate officer, self-employed) and on the country. This is checked case by case, before choosing any solution.
What is a waiting period in death-and-disability cover?
It is the period during which no benefit is paid, for example after taking out the contract or after a work stoppage begins. Its length depends on the contract and should be read before signing.
Does requesting a study commit me to taking out a contract?
No: requesting a study is not taking out a contract. The interview is there to understand your situation and explain what may be considered.
Do I have to provide medical information to request a study?
No: no medical data is requested when you request a study. An insurer may ask for some later, when a contract is actually being taken out, depending on the contract.
