ORIAS
The single register kept by the Organisme pour le Registre des Intermédiaires en Assurance, Banque et Finance, on which every insurance intermediary must be registered to legally operate in France.
Registration with ORIAS is a precondition for carrying out an insurance intermediation activity in France: broker, general agent, agent. The register is public and can be checked by any client, to verify that a professional is duly authorized before dealing with them.
Registered intermediaries are also supervised by the Autorité de contrôle prudentiel et de résolution (ACPR), and must hold professional liability insurance.
Example
Before signing with an insurance intermediary, checking their ORIAS number confirms that they are authorized to distribute the products they offer.
