Expat insurance and health insurance in Côte d'Ivoire

Local healthcare system
The Ivorian CMU, established by the law of 24 March 2014 and run by the CNAM (created in 2014), distinguishes a general contributory scheme (≈1,000 FCFA/month/person, cover up to 70%) from a free medical assistance scheme for people in poverty. More than 15 million people were enrolled in 2024. Foreigners in a regular situation resident for more than a year can in principle register (consular card or residence permit, one-month waiting period), but the network remains mainly public; most French residents turn to the private sector.
Legal and visa obligations

Social security agreements with France
The France-Côte d'Ivoire social security agreement, signed on 16 January 1985 (in force since 1 January 1987), coordinates maternity, old age-survivors, workplace accidents/occupational diseases and family benefits. Health cover is explicitly not coordinated.
